PRIMARY PAEDIATRIC CARE
AGE-SPECIFIC HEALTH CHECKS
Primary paediatric care also includes regular medical check-ups. These check-ups are recommended by the Swiss Society of Paediatrics, as they serve to identify whether children and adolescents are developing normally. The focus is on the patient’s physical, mental and emotional development, as well as their height and weight.
The following points are also addressed according to the child’s age:
- 1 month: ultrasound of the hip joints, vaccination advice, breastfeeding, nutrition and accident prevention
- 2-12 months: height and weight gain, coordination / motor skills
- 18-24 months: physical development, motor skills / fine motor skills, social behaviour, language and hearing development, understanding and solving simple tasks
- 3 years: motor skills, performing easy tasks and following simple requirements, language development, social behaviour
- 4 years: sight and hearing tests, ability to concentrate, ability to play and social behaviour
- 6 years: sight and hearing tests, language ability, gross and fine motor skills, comprehension and intelligence, ability to concentrate, social behaviour, physical development (height and weight)
- 10 years: advice on puberty issues, sport and leisure time; family and school, sight and hearing. Position of teeth, locomotor system (spine, joints), posture problems
- 12-15 years: puberty development, sex education, AIDS, hepatitis, addiction prevention, sight and hearing, locomotor system (spine, joints), posture problems, advice on school and career choices, vaccinations
