Drown; The Silent Death

Drown; The Silent Death

Dear Parents
The topic of drowning/secondary drowning in children and babies is an extremely complex one. Due to multiple inquiries and requests, we have gathered some information for you. It's important for us to clarify that we do not wish to spread panic with this topic, but rather, it's our concern to inform you about the symptoms so that you can act in case of an emergency.

Before we delve into the topic in detail, here is an important piece of information: Secondary drowning always happens after a bathing accident! If a child swallows water while bathing in the tub or swimming in the sea/pool, this is no reason to worry!

Ticks! Tick-borne encephalitis

Spring is finally here and the beautiful, long and sunny days are returning.

With spring, however, the ticks are coming back and are on the rise in Switzerland. Tick bites can cause serious illnesses with sometimes permanent consequences. Anyone who often spends time outdoors should therefore protect themselves.

The infectious disease TBE (tick-borne encephalitis = meningitis), which is caused by viruses, as well as the bacterial infectious disease Lyme disease, can be transmitted by ticks.

While Lyme disease is treated with antibiotics, you can protect yourself against TBE with a vaccination. However, the vaccination is only effective if you were vaccinated before becoming ill.
